Congresswoman Elise Stefanik recently penned an op-ed in the Watertown Daily Times, paying tribute to the courage and diligence of military mothers on Mother's Day. She also discussed her ongoing efforts to ensure that service members and their spouses have access to reliable maternal healthcare.

In her article titled "Honoring Our Military Moms on Mother’s Day," Stefanik highlighted the unique dedication of military mothers who often serve far from their families to protect the nation. She stressed that the strength of our armed forces relies not only on the bravery of our service members but also on the resilience of their families who face unique challenges.

As Fort Drum’s chief advocate in Congress, Stefanik reiterated her commitment to ensuring that service members and their spouses have access to essential resources such as reliable maternal healthcare. She expressed concern over recent staffing shortages at Fort Drum’s maternal health clinic which led to expectant mothers being referred off post for third trimester care.

To address these shortfalls, Stefanik introduced legislation called the Improving Access to Maternal Health for Military and Dependent Moms Act. This legislation aims to expand access to comprehensive prenatal and postnatal care for service members and their families, ensuring they receive support close to home.

Stefanik's commitment extends beyond this legislation. As a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, she has advocated for various measures aimed at enhancing the quality of life for military families. In FY24 NDAA, she secured the largest pay raise for service members in over 20 years, directed DoD to streamline regulations on childcare facility employees while maintaining current standards of care, and authorized DoD to decrease out-of-pocket childcare expenses for military families.

Stefanik concluded by expressing her honor in representing Fort Drum in Congress and reaffirmed her commitment to supporting military families across all armed forces. On Mother's Day, she urged everyone to recognize the invaluable contributions of military mothers and honor their unwavering strength and resilience.
