The Albany Med Health System is advancing its commitment to cardiac care with the formation of a new Cardiac Steering Committee. This initiative aims to improve access and coordination among specialists across the region.

The committee will include new members Soon Park, MD, and Mushabbar Syed, MD, alongside providers from within the system and partners such as Capital Cardiology Associates (CCA). The goal is to unify resources and technology for enhanced heart care.

Jason Mouzakes, MD, executive vice president and Albany Medical Center Hospital General Director, stated that their systemwide electronic medical record has already improved information sharing among physicians. “This committee will further allow us to collaborate, communicate, and evaluate quality metrics and outcomes—enhancing cardiac care in our region even further,” he said.

Since 2017, Albany Medical Center and Columbia Memorial Health have integrated cardiology services. A new Cardiac Care Center at CMH’s Greene Medical Arts facility is expected by late 2026 or early 2027. This center will provide same-day evaluations and expanded access to heart care services.

Dorothy Urschel, DNP, president and CEO of Columbia Memorial Health remarked on the evolving nature of cardiac care: “As cardiac care continues to evolve, the steering committee will offer even more opportunities to foster a collaborative approach to evaluating resources, maximizing efficiency, and improving patient care and the patient experience.”

Glens Falls Hospital CEO Paul Scimeca highlighted the benefits of being part of this health system: “One of the great benefits…is the access to expanded services and care.” He added that Dr. Soon Park’s addition would enhance regional patient care.

Lance E. Sullenberger, MD, CEO of CCA emphasized their collaboration with Albany Med: “By aligning our clinical expertise…this partnership not only strengthens our shared mission but sets a new benchmark for collaboration in cardiovascular medicine.”

Dennis P. McKenna, MD, president and CEO of Albany Med Health System confirmed that recent developments align with their reputation for excellence in heart care: “Our recruitment of top leaders in cardiovascular care…reflects our commitment to position the Albany Med Health System as a premier cardiovascular destination.”
