Albany Medical College is set to hold its 187th Commencement Ceremonies on Thursday, May 8, at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. The event will see the conferral of medical degrees (MD), master’s degrees, and doctoral degrees to over 200 students.
The keynote address will be delivered by Mitch Warner, a best-selling author and managing partner at the Arbinger Institute. Warner has extensive experience in healthcare culture change and has worked with organizations such as the Cleveland Clinic, NASA, and branches of the U.S. military. He frequently writes about individual and organizational mindsets’ impact on culture and results, leadership, strategy, and performance management.
Warner will be honored with an honorary degree during the ceremony. Another recipient of an honorary degree is Michael Shy, MD, a 1979 graduate of Albany Medical College. Dr. Shy is a professor at the University of Iowa in neurology, pediatrics, molecular physiology, and biophysics. He holds several directorial positions within the university’s Department of Neurology.
Dr. Shy’s clinical expertise includes neuromuscular disorders and muscular dystrophies. He focuses on translational research aimed at developing therapies for inherited peripheral neuropathies and related neurodegenerative diseases.
Other speakers include Alan S. Boulos, MD ’94; Maggie Gillis; and student representatives from the Class of 2025.
