Albany Medical College held its White Coat Ceremony on Friday, July 25, at The Palace Theatre in Albany. The event welcomed 145 incoming medical students along with their friends and families. During the ceremony, students donned their white coats for the first time and recited the Declaration of Geneva.
The Class of 2029 was selected from over 14,000 applications and includes students from 27 states. Among them are 47 students from New York, including 22 from the Capital Region and seven graduates of Shaker High School in Latham. The class is diverse, with students speaking 22 languages and representing 19 birth countries.
Forty-one new students graduated from joint degree programs at Siena College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and Union College affiliated with Albany Medical College. Additionally, twenty-seven are entering with master’s degrees, while most hold undergraduate degrees in biological sciences.
“The white coat is a powerful reminder of our commitment to deliver care with integrity, empathy, and humanism,” said Alan S. Boulos, MD ’94, Distinguished Dean of Albany Medical College. “We are proud to support our new students in their medical journeys and look forward to growing with them as we guide them to becoming compassionate, skilled physicians.”
The ceremony concluded a week of orientation activities marking the beginning of classes for these new medical students.
