Dr. Soon J. Park, a cardiothoracic surgeon recognized for his contributions to the field, has joined the Albany Med Health System as the surgical director of cardiovascular services at Albany Medical Center. His role will involve working with colleagues across the system to enhance regional cardiovascular care.
Alan S. Boulos, MD, Dean of Albany Medical College, praised Dr. Park’s expertise: “The level of expertise Dr. Park brings to the Albany Med Health System’s cardiovascular services is unmatched in the region.” He added that Dr. Park’s experience would benefit patient care and medical education significantly.
Dr. Park specializes in adult cardiothoracic surgery, covering areas such as ischemic heart disease and mitral valve repair. The Albany Med Health System aims to improve access to heart and vascular care through hospital partnerships and unified electronic medical records.
“Albany Medical Center, Columbia Memorial Health, Glens Falls Hospital, and Saratoga Hospital each hold a critical role in their communities,” said Dr. Park. He emphasized opportunities for collaborative care within the system.
In addition to clinical duties, Dr. Park values academic medicine and plans to continue mentoring residents and fellows while engaging in research at Albany Medical Center.
“As a tertiary medical center, Albany Medical Center provides the research infrastructure,” stated Dr. Park about his return to academia.
Dr. Park will also join a new cardiovascular steering committee focused on improving cardiac care within the system.
His career includes leadership roles at institutions like Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and University Hospitals Case Medical Center. Locally, he was chief of cardiac surgery at St. Peter’s Health Partners.
Dr. Park will see patients at Albany Medical Center’s Surgeons Pavilion in Albany.
