Nabeel Herial, MD, MPH, has taken on a significant role at Albany Medical Center, part of the Albany Med Health System. Dr. Herial now serves as the director of Albany Medical Center’s Comprehensive Stroke Center and vice chair of the Department of Neurology. He also leads inpatient services and the division of vascular neurology. In addition, he serves as an associate professor of neurology and neurosurgery at Albany Medical College.
Dr. Herial is a board-certified vascular neurologist and endovascular neurosurgeon focused on treating vascular diseases of the brain and spine. His expertise covers areas such as stroke, brain aneurysm, carotid or vertebral artery stenosis, arterial dissection, arteriovenous malformation, and atherosclerotic disease of intracranial and cervical arteries.
Before joining Albany Medical Center, Dr. Herial was at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, where he served as co-director of the Global Neurology Program. He was also an attending physician at Jefferson-Abington Hospital and an associate professor of neurology and neurosurgery at Sidney Kimmel Medical College.
Dr. Herial’s training is extensive, including a fellowship in endovascular neurosurgery and neurovascular critical care at Jefferson Health/Thomas Jefferson University, further fellowship training in endovascular surgical neuroradiology/interventional neurology at St. Cloud Hospital, and a vascular neurology fellowship at the University of California San Diego. His residency was completed at the University of Toledo College of Medicine in Ohio, where he also earned a master’s degree in public health. His medical degree is from the University of Health Sciences in India.
With over 150 scientific publications to his name, Dr. Herial has considerable experience in clinical research. He is involved with various professional societies, including the World Stroke Organization and the American Academy of Neurology, and engages in global health collaborations.
