Endocrine and general surgeon Dr. Joshua Chao has joined the Division of Endocrine Surgery in the Department of Surgery at Albany Medical Center.

He also treats conditions such as Cushing’s syndrome, hyperaldosteronism (Conn’s syndrome), pheochromocytoma, and adrenal cancer. Dr. Chao has received extensive training in retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomies, a minimally invasive procedure that removes the adrenal glands through incisions in the lower back, which can lead to less pain and faster recovery.

Dr. Chao completed his endocrine surgery fellowship at University of California, Los Angeles, his general surgery residency at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and earned his medical degree from the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.
In addition to his medical career, Dr. Chao is a former practicing attorney with an interest in social determinants of health and institutional barriers to care. He collaborates with Albany Medical College, Albany Law School, and the Alden March Bioethics Institute to address these issues.
