Mayor Carmella Mantello announced on April 20 the appointment of John “Jocko” Mahoney to the Board of Commissioners for the Troy Housing Authority.
Mahoney’s selection is intended to bring decades of public service experience and a deep understanding of local housing needs to the board. City officials say his background will help strengthen leadership within the authority and support its mission to provide safe, affordable, and well-maintained housing for residents.
Mahoney has served in various roles throughout his career in Troy. He worked with distinction in the Troy Police Department from 1976 until 1999, achieving the rank of detective. He later served as City Councilman for District 2 from 2004 to 2005. Most recently, he was a Building Supervisor at the Troy Housing Authority from 2012 through 2025, where he gained direct experience with both operations and resident needs.
“Jocko has dedicated his life to serving the people of Troy,” said Mayor Mantello. “From his years protecting our neighborhoods as a police officer and detective, to his leadership in City Hall, and his hands-on work within the Troy Housing Authority, he brings unmatched experience and perspective to this position. I am confident he will be a strong advocate for residents and help ensure the continued improvement of housing in our city.”
Mahoney said he is honored by this new opportunity: “Having worked closely with residents for many years, I understand how important safe, well-maintained housing is to families and our community. I look forward to working with Mayor Mantello and the THA Board to make a positive difference for the people we serve.” Mahoney has been married for more than five decades; he and his wife Claudia have four children and fourteen grandchildren.
Mayor Mantello stated she looks forward to collaborating with Mahoney as part of ongoing efforts aimed at advancing improvements across Troy’s public housing system.
