Rensselaer County District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly announced on Apr. 9 that Nicholas Dodge, age 31, of Troy has been sentenced to state prison after pleading guilty to first-degree robbery, a violent felony.

Dodge was found guilty of robbing a Sunoco gas station in Brunswick at gunpoint on December 1, 2055. According to the district attorney’s office, New York State Police identified Dodge using surveillance footage and apprehended him during a traffic stop. Authorities later recovered the purple handgun used in the crime at his residence.

“Given the defendant’s status as a violent predicate offender, the sentence imposed was legally appropriate,” said District Attorney Mary Pat Donnelly.

Dodge received a sentence of ten years in state prison with five years of post-release supervision. An order of protection was also issued as part of the sentencing. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Claire Hewitt and presided over by Honorable Debra Young.

The sentencing reflects ongoing efforts by law enforcement and prosecutors to address violent crime in Rensselaer County.
