Paul Tonko, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 20th district since 2009, has recently shared updates on his legislative and community activities through a series of posts on his official social media account.
On July 29, 2025, Tonko expressed appreciation for a colleague’s hospitality and reiterated his commitment to supporting local organizations. He wrote, “I’m so grateful to Rep. Balint for hosting me today, and I’m committed to continuing my work with her and the ATR Caucus to deliver resources to these outstanding community organizations and individuals – including through our innovative Combating Loneliness Act.”
The following day, Tonko addressed concerns regarding changes to national health care programs. On July 30, 2025, he posted, “For 60 years, Medicaid and Medicare have provided affordable, quality health care. Thanks to Trump’s Big Ugly Law, 15 million Americans will lose this lifeline. But we’re keeping up the fight to reverse these cuts & rebuild America’s health care system.”
Later that morning, Tonko described an event held at a local park in support of historic preservation efforts. He stated on July 30, 2025: “This morning, I hosted a campfire chat at Peebles Island State Park to stand united with local preservationists, historians, advocates, and community leaders and give the Trump administration one clear message: Hands Off Our History!”
Tonko has represented New York’s 20th District in Congress since replacing Michael McNulty in 2009. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the New York State Assembly from 1983 to 2007. Born in Amsterdam, New York in 1949 and currently residing there at age 73, Tonko graduated from Clarkson University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1971.
