Paul Tonko, U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 20th district since 2009, has recently addressed national and local issues through a series of posts on his social media account.
On April 7, 2026, Tonko made a strong statement regarding the actions of the President: “The President of the United States is publicly threatening to commit genocide. For love of country, for the freedoms we cherish and for the values we hold dear, the House must immediately reconvene & vote to impeach Donald Trump. The following day, April 8, 2026, Tonko shifted focus to veterans’ healthcare in his district. He wrote: “Our veterans have sacrificed so much, and the very least they deserve is access to the quality, affordable health care they’ve earned. That’s why I was proud to stand alongside members of our community today to fight back against the planned closure of the Schenectady VA clinic. https://t.co/nke8eEUKlN”. In a subsequent post that same day he added: “With health care becoming less accessible and affordable for people across the nation, the closure of this clinic would make it even more difficult for our veterans to get the care they need. I’ll keep urging local and national VA leadership to reverse this disastrous decision. https://t.co/UK9fthDimC”.
Tonko has been an advocate for his constituents since succeeding Michael McNulty in Congress in 2009 and previously served in the New York State Assembly from 1983 to 2007. Born in Amsterdam, New York in 1949, he continues to reside there at age 73 and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Clarkson University.
