Paul Tonko, currently serving as the U.S. Representative for New York’s 20th district, recently shared updates on the progress of semiconductor research and manufacturing in the Capital Region through a series of posts on July 14, 2025. Tonko has represented the district since 2009, following his tenure in the New York State Assembly from 1983 to 2007.
On July 14, 2025, Tonko attended an event at the Albany NanoTech Complex operated by NY CREATES. He stated, “Today, I was proud to be at the @NY_CREATES Albany NanoTech Complex to celebrate the grand opening of the CHIPS for America Extreme Ultraviolet (EUV) Accelerator – a new national R&D hub that cements our region’s status as a global hub of semiconductor innovation.”
In a subsequent post on July 14, Tonko highlighted legislative contributions that made this facility possible. He wrote, “This flagship facility, made possible in part by investments from our CHIPS and Science Act and my Microelectronics Research for Energy Innovation Act, will help enable the high-volume production of smaller, faster, and more efficient chips right here in the United States.”
Tonko concluded his remarks with recognition of regional efforts in technology leadership. On July 14 he posted, “For years, I’ve said our Capital Region is uniquely positioned to lead the nation – and the world – in semiconductor manufacturing, cutting-edge research, and workforce development. Today, I’m grateful to all those who have helped make that vision a reality.”
Paul Tonko was born in Amsterdam, New York in 1949 and currently resides there. He graduated from Clarkson University in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
