Today, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik issued a statement regarding the New York State Assembly’s passage of the Medical Aid in Dying Act (A136/S138). Stefanik voiced her opposition, criticizing what she described as an assisted suicide bill promoted by the state’s “Far Left Democrats.”

Stefanik expressed, “The New York State Assembly’s decision to pass this disgusting assisted suicide bill is a shameful attack on the sanctity of life and a betrayal of our most vulnerable citizens.” She argued that the legislation risks coercion for the elderly, disabled, and terminally ill individuals. Stefanik, identifying as a pro-life advocate, shared her dismay over the bill, stating that it promotes a “culture of death” rather than upholding the dignity of New York residents.

The congresswoman asserted that the bill contradicts the principle of the sanctity of life, which she has consistently supported in Congress. Stefanik criticized the legislation for its lack of investment in palliative care, mental health support, and life-affirming resources. She said, “It sends a chilling message to our seniors and disabled communities that their lives are expendable.”

Elise Stefanik called upon the State Senate to oppose the bill, urging rejection of policies she believes erode moral foundations. She stated, “As the representative of New York’s 21st District, I will continue to champion life at every stage and fight against the extremist agenda of Hochul and her Albany Democrats.”

The congresswoman reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for policies that protect every citizen of New York.
