House Republican Leadership Chair Elise Stefanik has issued a statement criticizing Governor Kathy Hochul and Albany Democrats for including a taxpayer-funded provision in the New York State budget. This provision is intended to support Attorney General Letitia James’ legal defense amid a federal investigation into alleged fraudulent real estate dealings.
Stefanik expressed strong disapproval, stating, “Kathy Hochul and Albany Democrats have reached a new low in their corrupt, far-left agenda by sneaking language into the state budget that misuses hardworking New Yorkers’ tax dollars to bankroll Letitia James’ legal defense against serious allegations of mortgage fraud.” She further criticized this move as emblematic of corruption within Albany’s political landscape.
The statement continues with accusations against Letitia James, alleging that she “illegally weaponized her office to pursue politically motivated witch hunts” and now expects taxpayers to cover the costs of her alleged misconduct. Stefanik highlighted other pressing issues facing New Yorkers, such as rising crime rates and cost-of-living challenges, which she attributes to Governor Hochul’s policies.
Stefanik called for accountability regarding the use of public funds, urging Governor Hochul to remove the provision from the budget and advocating for an independent investigation into James’ alleged actions. She concluded by reaffirming her commitment to opposing what she describes as “the corrupt one-party rule in Albany.”
