Suffolk County ranked sixth in state for resident earnings in 2017

Suffolk County ranked sixth among counties in New York by annual earnings per resident, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau in August.

The median income of Suffolk County residents was an inflation-adjusted $37,420 per year. Suffolk County had 489,328 households in 2017, with a population of 1,497,595.

The county with the highest median resident income in the state was New York County. New York County's median income was $46,152 per year after adjusting for inflation – $8,732 more than Suffolk County. It had 758,345 households in 2017 and a population of 1,653,877.

Bronx County had the lowest annual resident income among counties in New York, with a median income of only $20,576 per year. That was $16,844 less than the median income in Suffolk County at the time. Bronx County had 495,356 households in 2017 and a population of 1,455,846.
