LINDA MCMAHON CONFIRMED AS DIRECTOR OF RENSSELAER COUNTY PROBATION DEPARTMENT, COUNTY EXECUTIVE STEVE MCLAUGHLIN AND MEMBERS OF COUNTY LEGISLATURE ANNOUNCE

Linda McMahon has been confirmed by the Rensselaer County Legislature as Director of the County Probation Department, County Executive Steve McLaughlin announced today.

She replaces Laura Bauer, who retired as county Probation Director in 2021. McMahon served as Deputy Director for four years, and has been with the department for 37 years. She has been Acting Director since Bauer’s retirement.

“Rensselaer County is truly fortunate to have a person with the skill and experience of Linda McMahon willing to serve in this important position,” said County Executive Steve McLaughlin.

“Linda has served in the department for nearly 40 years, and understands the mission of protecting the public while fostering paths to better lives for those in the criminal justice system,” added McLaughlin.

McMahon was confirmed by a unanimous vote of legislators at the April 12 legislative meeting.

The county Probation Department includes about 60 employees, including 55 probation officers. The department is now largely based in rented county offices at Flanigan Square in Troy.

Growing up in Brooklyn, Linda’s father, brother and grandfather were all members of the New York Police Department.  As a student at Siena College in the 1980s, Linda was a student intern in the county Probation Department. That led to full-time employment with the department, and service in numerous positions in the department.

“The Probation Department provides a vital service to the public, with law enforcement meeting the ability to protect residents and help people. The work we do here is important and I look forward to the opportunity to lead the outstanding men and women who make a difference for our county and region every day,” said McMahon.

Her husband Eric serves as Chief of the Troy Fire Department. She and Eric are parents of four children.

“Linda has an unparalleled record of achievement in the criminal justice field. The citizens of Rensselaer County are very fortunate to have such an exemplary individual heading up one of the county’s most important departments. We are lucky to have her,” said Legislator Tom Grant, Chair of Judiciary and Public Safety Committee- East Greenbush.

“Linda has the experience needed to understand the ever changing dynamics of the criminal justice system, and operate Probation in a way that best serves our residents,” said Vice Chair Bob Loveridge- East Schodack.
