Rensselaer County has a proud tradition of military service, with residents fighting on the frontline of freedom since the start of our country. One unit was the 32nd Separate Company of the National Guard from Hoosick Falls.
The 32nd was first sent into service in 1885. The unit was based in the Hoosick Falls Armory after the Armory was constructed in 1889. The unit participated in the Spainish-American War, and members participated in World War I and World War II, among other later actions.
For over a century, members of the unit have held an anniversary dinner to recognize service. This past Saturday at Giuseppe's in Pittstown, the 137th anniversary dinner of the 32nd Separate Company was held. Organizer Paul O'Malley was presented a county commendation from County Executive Steve McLaughlin by Director of Operations Richard Crist.
Thanks to all members of the 32nd Separate Company for their service!
