Man Wanted in Connection with Dana Avenue Domestic Burglary, Assault and Menacing Arrested
Handgun, Drugs Also Recovered During Arrest
A 35-year-old Albany man who broke a woman’s foot and proceeded to threaten her with a handgun Friday night during a domestic burglary on Dana Avenue is in custody.
On Friday, October 7, 2022 around 10:40 p.m., officers responded to a report of a domestic burglary that occurred on Dana Avenue. Through their investigation, it was determined that the suspect entered the victim’s apartment unlawfully and while inside, assaulted the victim by punching and kicking her about the body. He also threated the victim with a handgun.
The victim was treated at a local hospital for a fractured foot, as well as contusions and pain to her body.
On Sunday, October 9th around 3:50 p.m., Albany police officers observed the suspect on Dana Avenue and attempted to take him into custody. The suspect, William Crawford, ran from officers on foot but was quickly apprehended. During his arrest, Crawford was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun and a quantity of cocaine which he had concealed in his pants pockets.
The handgun was found to be reported stolen out of Columbia, South Carolina.
As it relates to the domestic burglary on Friday, Crawford was charged with two counts of Burglary 1st, one count of Assault 3rd, and one count of Menacing 2nd.
He was also charged with one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd, two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd and one count of Criminal Possession of a Stolen Property 4th stemming from the handgun and drug possession at the time of his arrest.
In addition, he was arrested on the strength of an active arrest warrant that was issued on January 21, 2022 out of Albany City Criminal Court for Assault 3rd from a separate incident.
Crawford was arraigned Monday in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
