Celebrate No-Till November!
No-till farming helps climate change in several ways. Not cultivating the soil prevents soil erosion and runoff. It reduces the amount of fuel farmers use by less trips across the field, and it also helps soil hold on to carbon, preventing the release of greenhouse gas emissions during tillage. USDA estimates that across the United States, farmers who use no-till farming save approximately 588 million gallons of diesel fuel annually. That is enough energy to power over 720,000 homes for a year. No-till also prevents at least 5.8 million tons of carbon-dioxide emissions, the equivalent of taking more than 1 million cars off the road. So overall less pollution makes it a safer and healthier environment for youth and adults to live in!
