Urges further action to shore up pollution limits in order to meet nation’s climate goals ?
WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Paul D. Tonko (D-NY) today released the following statement on the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) announcement for new rules limiting carbon pollution from fossil fuel-fired power plants under its authority from Section 111 of the Clean Air Act. This announcement follows a March 2023 letter led by Tonko and others urging EPA Administrator Michael Regan to propose strong limits to carbon emissions under Section 111.
“We need a full-throated response to the climate crisis, now more than ever—that includes reigning in pollution in the power sector, which accounts for 25 percent of America’s greenhouse gas emissions. Earlier this year, I joined my colleagues in leading a letter calling on the EPA to impose limits on carbon pollution from power plants and I’m grateful that the agency has heeded this call.
“Moving forward, I’m ready and eager to continue partnering with EPA to do all we can to implement federal action that meets the moment, supercharges our clean energy transition, and ensures a stronger, healthier planet for all.”
