Later that day, he commented on public figures Donald Trump and Elon Musk by comparing their recent public fallout to what he describes as a failed budget initiative. He stated: “Trump and Musk’s public breakup is almost as messy and disastrous as the ‘big, beautiful’ budget scam.”
On June 6, Tonko expressed relief over Kilmar Abrego Garcia’s return home while emphasizing the need for further action from the administration regarding due process for others in similar situations. He wrote: “Kilmar Abrego Garcia is coming home. As we always knew, this administration had the power to bring him back. We must continue pushing for the return of the hundreds more individuals who have not been given the due process fundamental to our democracy.”
Paul Tonko has served in Congress since replacing Michael McNulty in 2009 after previously serving in the New York State Assembly from 1983 to 2007.
