Albany Police Department - Purchasing Something You Found on Social Media? Meet at a Police Station

Over the last couple of weeks, officers have responded to several robberies that were the result of persons attempting to sell products that they posted on social media sites such as Facebook Marketplace.

During these incidents, the buyer and seller agreed to meet at a specific location in the City of Albany and during their meeting, the seller had items forcibly stolen from them.

At the APD, we understand the popularity and conveinence of buying and selling items online, especially on social media. We are, however, encouraging those who take part in these transactions to choose a safe place for them to occur.

In order to provide members of our community with a safe and viable location for online/social media transactions, the Albany Police Department is urging both the buyer and seller to meet at one of our police stations. Our lobbies are open 24/7 and available to prevent these type of robberies from occurring.

By meeting at one of our police stations, you reduce the risk of becoming the victim of theft, robbery, or other confrontations.
