Albany Woman Charged with Burglaries, Package Theft

A 33-year-old Albany woman has been charged with breaking into two homes on Trinity Place earlier this month, as well as stealing items from a resident’s front porch Sunday afternoon on Myrtle Avenue.

Taviana Kemp was arrested following an investigation by detectives from the Albany Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit.

On Wednesday, December 7, 2022 between 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., Kemp entered a home on Trinity Place near Ashgrove Place and while inside, stole several electronic items and clothing from the victim.

Approximately two hours later, Kemp entered a second home on Trinity Place just north of Ashgrove Place and while inside, she was confronted by the resident. During a physical altercation with the resident, Kemp dropped items she had stolen from the previous burglary on Trinity Place and fled the scene.

Kemp was charged with two counts of Burglary 2nd, one count of Petit Larceny and one count of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th for her role in the Trinity Place burglaries.

In addition, Kemp was charged in connection with a package theft that occurred on Sunday, December 18, 2022 around 2:10 p.m. on Myrtle Avenue near Philip Street. During that incident, Kemp opened a package that had been delivered to a home and didn’t belong to her. She then proceeded to steal clothing that was inside.

She was charged with one count of Petit Larceny in relation to the Myrtle Avenue theft.

In addition to these arrests, Kemp has been arrested six times in 2022, including two arrests for warrants for failure to appear in court on previous charges.

She was arraigned Monday morning in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail.
