The bipartisanCountering CCP Drones Act and the bipartisanForeign Adversary Communications Transparency (FACT) Act, introduced by Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, have advanced through the House Energy and Commerce’s Communications and Technology Subcommittee unanimously. The passage during today’s markup sets these bills up for consideration by the full House Energy and Commerce Committee.
Congresswoman Elise Stefanik expressed, “The advancement of my bills the Countering CCP Drones Act and the FACT Act should send a clear message to Communist China that House Republicans will use every tool at our disposal to stop them from undermining America’s sovereignty.” She emphasized the importance of countering the threats posed by Communist China's control over the drone market and telecommunications infrastructure.
Federal Communications Commissioner Brendan Carr commended Congresswoman Stefanik's efforts, stating, “I applaud Congresswoman Stefanik’s strong leadership and thoughtful work to counter the malign influence of the Chinese Communist Party and other authoritarian state actors.” He highlighted the bipartisan support that the legislation has garnered, acknowledging the need to address the CCP's campaign to surveil Americans.
TheCountering CCP Drones Act, introduced with Select Committee on the CCP Chairman Mike Gallagher, aims to restrict Chinese drone company Da-Jiang Innovations (DJI) from operating on U.S. communications infrastructure. Similarly, theForeign Adversary Communications Transparency (FACT) Act, introduced alongside Congressman Ro Khanna and Select Committee on the CCP Chairman Mike Gallagher, seeks to counter the influence of foreign adversaries on the United States’ telecommunications infrastructure.
Senator Marco Rubio has introduced a companion bill in the Senate to further support the efforts initiated by Congresswoman Stefanik and her colleagues.
