Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has successfully secured $4.5 million in funding for the Saranac Lake emergency complex through the Consolidated Appropriations Act. The allocated funds will be utilized to enhance Saranac Lake's emergency services facility and provide support to first responders.
Stefanik expressed her satisfaction with the funding, stating, "This is a significant result for Saranac Lake." Mayor Jimmy Williams also shared his excitement, describing the award as the "biggest chunk" of money the town has received for the project thus far. Williams emphasized the necessity of the project, affirming, "But it's got to be done, so we've got to figure out a way to do it."
Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department Chief Brendan Keough commended Stefanik for her advocacy, mentioning, "She has been a very good advocate and a very good listener for emergency services." Stefanik, reflecting on the importance of the project, recalled her visit to the fire hall, stating, "It was clear how important it is."
Trustee Matt Scollin highlighted the significance of the funding in advancing the project, stating, "This is real momentum, this is real energy." Keough emphasized the crucial role of additional funding sources, noting, "Without additional funding sources, federal or state … there's no way that this project would even be possible."
Additionally, Stefanik addressed other aspects of the appropriations bill, including budget cuts to various government agencies. She expressed concerns about the politicization of the FBI, stating, "The FBI has been weaponized." Stefanik further supported funding reductions for agencies like the ATF, emphasizing the importance of slashing wasteful spending.
The Adirondack Daily Enterprise article emphasized the long-standing need for improved emergency facilities in Saranac Lake, with the fire department searching for a new home since 1971. The recent funding secured by Stefanik marks a significant step towards addressing these critical infrastructure needs.
