Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has successfully secured a $1.8 million grant for the Water District Development Project in the Town of Massena, as reported by North Country Now. The funding, awarded through the Consolidated Appropriations Act, will be utilized to provide public water service to residents of Massena who currently face issues with inadequately served well systems.
Stefanik expressed her satisfaction with the outcome, stating, "This is a big result that we have delivered to the people of Massena. Bringing clean water and improving infrastructure is a top priority for the members of my district." She highlighted her efforts in shepherding the application through the appropriations committee to fast track the funds for the project's construction this summer.
The collaboration between Stefanik, federal partners, and local and state officials was crucial in securing the necessary funds. Stefanik emphasized the significance of the investment, stating, "This isn't just an investment in infrastructure, this is an investment in the people of Massena."
The Town of Massena's Supervisor, Sue Bellor, expressed gratitude for the funding received, noting the residents' long-standing desire for municipal water due to issues with well water quality affecting appliances and clothing. The project, expected to cost $9 million, will be supported by a combination of federal grants, a zero-interest loan, and a Bipartisan Infrastructure Law General Supplement grant.
Matthew Cooper, a Senior Associate at Barton & Loguidice, anticipates that 161 equivalent dwelling units will benefit from the new water district. Stefanik affirmed her commitment to delivering results for her constituents, emphasizing her dedication to securing funding for essential projects in NY-21.
The successful allocation of the $1.8 million grant underscores Stefanik's ongoing efforts to address critical infrastructure needs and improve the quality of life for residents in Massena.
