Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy has revealed a strategic partnership between Albany County, the Capital Region Transportation Council (CRTC), and the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) to launch a Multimodal Resiliency Plan for the Broadway/Route 32 corridor. This plan aims to enhance the corridor's resilience to climate change and improve overall transportation systems in the region.

The corridor under consideration stretches from Clinton Avenue in the City of Albany to 25th Street in the City of Watervliet, serving as a crucial link between various destinations, downtowns, and neighborhoods. Notably, it accommodates the Capital District Transportation Authority's (CDTA) Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Blue Line, emphasizing its significance in the area's transportation network.

McCoy highlighted that the Multimodal Resiliency Plan will focus on implementing design concepts that integrate natural and transportation systems to address climate change challenges. These initiatives will aim to manage stormwater, enhance air quality, mitigate heat stress, and promote sustainable low-carbon transportation options through improved connectivity of active transportation and transit services.

The urgency for such a plan was underscored by the findings of the recently completed Climate Resiliency Plan, which identified the Broadway/Route 32 corridor as susceptible to flooding and heat stress, predicted to worsen with the escalating impacts of climate change.

In order to ensure effective coordination and collaboration throughout the development of the Multimodal Resiliency Plan, a Study Advisory Committee has been established. The initiative will be financially supported by a $100,000 grant from the Capital District Planning Commission, with Albany County contributing an additional $10,000 in matching funds.
