Congresswoman Elise Stefanik recently attended the "Totality in Tupper Lake" event hosted by the Adirondack Sky Center and Observatory at the LP Quinn Elementary School in Tupper Lake, N.Y. The event was held to witness the historic total solar eclipse that occurred on April 8th, 2024.
Stefanik expressed pride in the Adirondack Sky Center and Observatory's role in providing NASA with a live video feed of the eclipse, stating, "Our district is so proud that the Adirondack Sky Center and Observatory was chosen to play a pivotal role in today’s historic eclipse by supplying NASA with one of only twelve live video feeds of the event. Because of this incredible organization in NY-21, millions were able to witness and enjoy what for many is a once in a lifetime event."
Seth McGowan, President of the Adirondack Sky Center, highlighted the organization's dedication to creating a safe, fun, and educational experience for visitors, stating, "As the only astronomy-based organization within the Adirondack Park, we have been planning for several years to create an experience that is safe, fun, and educational for our visitors."
The "Totality in Tupper Lake" event provided an economic opportunity to showcase Adirondack small businesses and communities, drawing attention to the beauty and significance of the region during the eclipse.
The Adirondack Sky Center and Observatory's participation in providing a live video feed of the eclipse contributed to making the rare celestial event accessible to a wide audience, allowing individuals to witness and appreciate the phenomenon from different parts of the country.
