Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan has revealed that the construction of the new Lincoln Park Pool is set to commence, with a flurry of activity expected in the upcoming weeks. The city's General Contractor for the project, Jersen Construction, will be overseeing the installation of over 250 micropiles to fortify the pool's foundation and the surrounding bathhouse area. Sheehan emphasized that Jersen Construction was chosen through a competitive bid process mandated by New York State law.
According to Sheehan, the micropiles, long metal tubes filled with concrete, will provide essential strength and stability to ensure the longevity of the new pool for generations to come. Following the installation of the micropiles, the construction will progress to include the development of pipes, structures, and terracing to stabilize the slope. Additionally, plans are in place for a new secondary bathhouse, a filtration building, patio, and shade structures.
The outdoor construction phase is scheduled to continue through late Fall 2024, with interior work within the existing bathhouse set for the winter months. The historic 1930s-era bathhouse will undergo renovations, including new lockers, repairs, and visual enhancements. Furthermore, a new water line will be established to connect the Pool to the Park Ave. water line.
The new Lincoln Park Pool, slated to open on July 4, 2025, will boast impressive features such as a Zero-Entry Pool with In-Water Spray Features, a 10-Lane ½ Size Olympic Lap Pool, a Splash Pad, Water Slide, Restrooms, Shade Pavilions, and a Picnic patio. The city assures that no more than five trees will be removed during the construction, with a commitment to replacing each tree with the same species.
In addition to the pool's amenities, plans for Phase II include the construction of a playground near the Lincoln Park Pool. For those interested in learning more about the project's history, community engagement efforts, and construction timeline, the city has provided further details on their website.
The commencement of construction at the Lincoln Park Pool marks a significant step towards the realization of a modern recreational facility that will serve the community for years to come.
