Congresswoman Elise Stefanik and a group of lawmakers have called for the resignation of Columbia University President Dr. Minouche Shafik due to her handling of recent incidents of antisemitic harassment and violence on campus.
In a letter led by Stefanik, the lawmakers expressed their dissatisfaction with Dr. Shafik's leadership, stating, "Over the past few days, anarchy has engulfed the campus of Columbia University." They criticized the President for failing to ensure a safe learning environment for students and allowing a situation where antisemitic harassment and calls for violence against Jewish students have occurred.
The lawmakers pointed out Dr. Shafik's responsibility in the current chaos on campus, stating, "The ongoing situation that has unfolded is a direct symptom of your continued lax enforcement of policy and clear double standards." They called for the restoration of order on campus and urged for the President's prompt resignation.
Joining Rep. Stefanik in this call for resignation were several other representatives, including Reps. Tenney, Lawler, Malliotakis, Langworthy, D’Esposito, Williams, LaLota, Garbarino, and Molinaro.
The full letter can be found on Stefanik's official website.
