Washington, D.C. — House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik criticized President Joe Biden's border policies, claiming they jeopardize the safety and security of Americans. Stefanik highlighted the House Republicans' commitment to securing borders by reverting to policies from the Trump administration.

"The American people are experiencing the most wide open, catastrophic border crisis in our nation’s history because of Joe Biden’s failed leadership," said Stefanik. She referenced recently released May border numbers, stating it marked the 39th consecutive month where illegal immigrant encounters exceeded any monthly figures under President Trump.

Stefanik pointed to a recent incident involving Jocelyn Nungaray, a twelve-year-old girl who was murdered by individuals illegally in the country. "Justice must be served, and they must be immediately deported," she asserted.

Since Biden took office, Stefanik claimed 10 million illegal immigrants have entered the country. She also mentioned reports that over 400 individuals with ties to ISIS were released into the U.S., with more than 50 still unaccounted for.

"In my district in Upstate New York and the North Country, the Northern Border has seen record illegal crossings including individuals on the terrorist watchlist," she added. According to Stefanik, under Trump’s administration, measures such as building a wall and ending catch-and-release ensured a secure border.

Stefanik stated that House Republicans would use appropriations bills to restore these policies. She also touched on a report alleging Biden's campaign colluded with former intelligence officials to suppress information regarding Hunter Biden's laptop.

She concluded by contrasting Trump's achievements with Biden's record ahead of an upcoming debate between Trump and Biden in Georgia. "It will be clear to the American people that President Trump’s America First agenda delivered the securest border in our nation’s history," she said.

Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee Chair Mark Amodei joined Stefanik to discuss Republican efforts to strengthen border security through appropriations.
