Congresswoman Elise Stefanik released a statement following an Iranian-backed attack on the U.S. military at al-Asad airbase in Iraq, which resulted in injuries to multiple U.S. service members.

“Our country is praying for the recovery of the U.S. service members who were injured in the Iranian-backed attack on al-Asad airbase in Iraq,” said Stefanik.

Stefanik criticized the Biden-Harris Administration's policy towards Iran, claiming it has enabled attacks against U.S. service members and Israel. “Since day one, the Biden-Harris Administration's policy of appeasement towards Iran has provided the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism with resources and a greenlight to carry out attacks against U.S. service members and our great ally Israel," she stated.

She further alleged that current policies have allowed significant financial benefits to Tehran. “Joe Biden and Kamala Harris reversed President Trump’s maximum pressure campaign allowing Iranian oil exports to skyrocket, providing Tehran access to $16 billion in sanctions relief, and opposing the snapback of UN sanctions on Iran’s missile and drone program.”

Stefanik also pointed to previous actions taken under President Trump as effective measures against Iranian aggression. “In 2020, following an Iranian-backed attack on U.S. forces, President Donald Trump took out Iranian General Soleimani causing Iran to cease its escalatory behavior.”

She concluded by calling for stronger leadership: “America needs a Commander in Chief who will protect our service members, demand peace through strength, apply maximum pressure, and put an end to Iran's aggression.”
