Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has issued a statement regarding the surge in illegal immigrant crossings at the Swanton Sector along the Northern Border. New York’s 21st Congressional District, which she represents, includes 150 miles of this border area between the Swanton and Buffalo sectors.

Stefanik attributed the increase to Vice President Kamala Harris, stating, “Open border czar Kamala Harris is responsible for the crisis at our Northern Border with the number of illegal crossings skyrocketing 50-fold and the number of crossings in 2024 surpassing the last 17 years combined.” She further criticized other Democratic leaders including Kathy Hochul, Eric Adams, and Chuck Schumer.

According to Stefanik, immigrants from 97 different countries have crossed into Upstate New York and the North Country through the Swanton Sector. She claims that open borders and sanctuary city policies are endangering American families' safety.

Stefanik emphasized her ongoing efforts to address these issues: "As the Representative of NY-21, I have been sounding the alarm for years that it is past time to secure our borders, ensure the safety of the American people, and return to President Trump’s secure border policies."
