Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has issued a statement urging the United States to support Israel's decision to prohibit the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) from operating within its territories. According to Stefanik, "The United States must stand with Israel's decision to ban Hamas-infiltrated UNRWA from operating in Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza."
Stefanik claims that UNRWA staff were involved in terrorist activities on October 7th and that their headquarters served as a base for Hamas operations. She further alleges that Yahya Sinwar, a Hamas leader, was found with an UNRWA teacher's passport when he was killed.
The Congresswoman criticized the Biden-Harris Administration for providing over $1 billion in funding to UNRWA since 2021. She stated, "This must end," emphasizing her belief that these funds are supporting what she describes as a "terrorist front."
Stefanik called for a permanent cessation of funding to UNRWA, aligning with former President Trump's policies. She argued that the agency "instills antisemitic hate in Palestinians, houses weapons for terrorists, and steals the aid they are supposed to be distributing."
