House Republicans, led by Conference Chair Elise Stefanik and Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, have raised concerns about a transcript released by the White House. They allege it inaccurately reflects President Biden's remarks about supporters of former President Trump, potentially violating the Presidential Records Act.
Stefanik and Comer addressed a letter to White House counsel Edward Siskel, insisting that records concerning the controversial remarks be preserved. "In less than one week, the American people will determine the winner of the 2024 presidential election," they stated. The letter criticized Biden for calling Trump's supporters "floating … garbage" during a Zoom call with Voto Latino, while discussing comments made at a Trump rally.
The White House has denied these allegations, asserting that Biden's words were misinterpreted. According to the official transcript released by the White House, Biden condemned "his demonization of Latinos," referring to rhetoric from the rally as "garbage." Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates clarified that Biden targeted only the "hateful rhetoric."
Vice President Kamala Harris has responded by distancing herself from any disparaging remarks while defending Biden's clarification efforts. She emphasized her commitment to representing all Americans regardless of their political choices.
The letter from Stefanik and Comer demands that all related documents be retained and calls for a corrected transcript. Meanwhile, Trump responded during a rally in North Carolina by criticizing both Biden and Harris for allegedly treating Americans poorly.
Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for comment but received no immediate response.
