Paul Tonko, a U.S. Congressman representing New York’s 20th district since 2009, has recently voiced his opinions on several pressing issues via social media. His tweets address matters concerning historical recognition, veterans' welfare, and fiscal policies.

On February 14, 2025, Tonko highlighted the importance of preserving the legacy of prominent figures in LGBTQ+ history. He stated, "We cannot let the truth be erased. Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, and other trans women fought for LGBTQ+ liberation. The National Park Service must educate, not erase their contributions."

Later that day on February 14, Tonko criticized actions taken by President Trump and Elon Musk regarding civil servants responsible for veteran care. He remarked on Twitter: "President Trump and Musk's rampage against civil servants has now put the care and wellbeing of our veterans at risk. We have a duty to those who have served our nation. Firing the dedicated workers who care for our veterans is a gross betrayal."

On February 16, Tonko expressed concern over the Republican budget proposal which he believes undermines essential services for American families in favor of tax breaks for wealthy individuals. He tweeted: "Republicans’ budget proposal is a betrayal of American families - slashing Medicaid, Medicare, & Social Security to finance $4.5 trillion in tax breaks for billionaires. Budgets reflect values – and theirs puts working people last."
