Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has cast her vote in support of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act in Washington, D.C. The legislation, aimed at reinforcing the requirement that only U.S. citizens can participate in federal elections, is cosponsored by Stefanik.
"President Trump and House Republicans are leading the way in ensuring only Americans vote in American elections," said Congresswoman Stefanik. She added that the "commonsense bill would codify into law President Trump’s executive order to restore election integrity across the country. Something that is badly needed in New York State after Democrats attempted to allow non-citizens to vote in New York elections."
The SAVE Act proposes several measures: it mandates states to gather proof of citizenship in person when individuals register to vote and requires the removal of non-citizens from current voter rolls.
