Mayor Kathy Sheehan has announced the availability of salt distribution for Albany residents at four locations. The sites include Westland Hills off Colvin Avenue, Ridgefield Park's parking lot off Patridge Street, Krank Park's parking lot, and Arbor Hill Softball Field's parking lot. These locations will be open on Wednesday, February 19 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and again on Thursday, February 20 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Residents are required to show proof of residency and bring their own containers. Salt will be distributed in increments not exceeding five gallons.

The announcement also emphasizes the importance of sidewalk snow removal for property owners. "It is imperative that property owners keep the sidewalks adjacent to their property clear for pedestrians in wheelchairs and pedestrian walkers to safely pass by," states the press release. According to City Code 323-21, property owners or residents must remove snow and ice from sidewalks and accessibility ramps within 24 hours after a snowstorm ends.

Failure to comply with this requirement may result in action by the Department of General Services, which could clear the sidewalks themselves. In such cases, property owners will receive a bill for the cost of removal along with a fine.
