Innovation: 23 patents granted in Schenectady in week ending Aug. 8

Patent 9

There were 23 patents granted in Schenectady in the week ending Aug. 8, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

This is two more than the week before. Patents included a hardware system for active rfid identification and location tracking.

The earliest patent filed which was granted in the week ending Aug. 8 belonged to General Electric Company who filed in Nov. 30, 2016.

The number of approved patents in the U.S. grew steadily from roughly 225,000 in 2009 to more than 285,000 in 2019. The number of patents approved suffered a slight downturn in 2020.

Gene Quinn with IPWatchdog said the system underneath patents have become unwieldy, specifically for medical innovations.
