Patent office approves 1 patent for Albany innovators in week ending Aug. 15

There was one patent granted in Albany in the week ending Aug. 15, according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

This is unchanged from the week before. The patent was for a region merging and coding parameter reuse via merging.

The patent was filed on Aug. 7, 2020

The number of approved patents in the U.S. grew steadily from roughly 225,000 in 2009 to more than 285,000 in 2019. The number of patents approved suffered a slight downturn in 2020.

Gene Quinn with IPWatchdog said the system underneath patents have become unwieldy, specifically for medical innovations.
