REMINDER - Don’t Leave Your Car Running Unattended
We continue to experience an increase in stolen vehicles throughout the city. With nearly 400 vehicles stolen this year, a significant amount of those vehicles were left running unattended, unlocked or had the keys in the ignition.
With cold weather upon us, we want to remind our community to never leave your vehicle running unattended even if you’re making a brief stop or are simply trying to warm up your vehicle before travel.
Doing so could create an opportunity for a thief to steal your car.
- Consider investing in a remote car starter which disables the vehicle once the brake is applied and can also be utilized when your car is still locked.
- NEVER leave your keys in the ignition or a spare key in the car.
- Always lock your car.
If you observe suspicious persons or activity, specifically individuals checking vehicles or attempting to steal a vehicle, please call 911 or 518-438-4000.
