Pediatric oncologist joins Albany Med's Melodies Center

Sarah Harney, MD, a specialist in pediatric hematology and oncology, has joined the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders at Albany Medical Center. Dr. Harney has also been appointed as an assistant professor of pediatrics at Albany Medical College.

At the Bernard & Millie Duker Children's Hospital, Dr. Harney will provide treatment for children with various cancer types and blood disorders. Her academic background includes a medical degree from Columbia University, residency in pediatrics at Brown University, and fellowship training at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, DC. Dr. Harney is dedicated to health equity and patient safety advocacy. She has researched diversity in pediatric oncology clinical trials and emphasizes that "fostering diversity in clinical research is essential for improving outcomes for all patients."

Dr. Harney is also committed to medical education. She participated in the American Society of Hematology Medical Educators Institute, where she developed a curriculum on core hematology topics for pediatric residents. She anticipates working with residents and students at Albany Medical College to promote trainee wellness.
