Albany Medical welcomes new chief for pediatric rheumatology division

Dr. Suhas Ganguli has been appointed as the Division Chief of Pediatric Rheumatology at the Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Ganguli, a board-certified pediatric rheumatologist, specializes in treating children and young adults up to 22 years old with autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases such as juvenile arthritis, lupus, dermatomyositis, vasculitis, fibromyalgia or amplified musculoskeletal pain syndromes, hypermobility syndromes, and recurrent fever syndromes. He is also skilled in performing intra-articular steroid injections for arthritis.

Before joining Albany Medical Center, Dr. Ganguli worked at K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Old Bridge Medical Center, and Hackensack University Medical Center in New Jersey under Hackensack Meridian Health.

Dr. Ganguli completed his pediatric rheumatology fellowship at Cohen Children’s Medical Center and his pediatrics residency at Flushing Hospital Medical Center in Queens, New York. Additionally, he finished a pediatrics residency and earned his medical degree from the Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research and the University of Calcutta in India respectively. He is fluent in English, Bengali, and Hindi.

He is affiliated with several professional organizations including the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Section of Rheumatology, the American College of Rheumatology, and the Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance. His interests include medical education, quality improvement, and patient safety. Notably recognized for his teaching abilities with awards like Subspecialist of the Year (2023-2024) at K. Hovnanian Children’s Hospital at Hackensack Meridian Health.

Dr. Ganguli has presented research findings at various rheumatology conferences globally and published multiple peer-reviewed articles. He notably led a pilot validation study on a patient-reported outcome tool called the Lupus Impact Tracker for pediatric patients.
