Urogynecologist Dr. Cara Grimes has joined the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Albany Medical Center. She is board-certified in Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Urogynecology, specializing in pelvic floor disorders such as urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, overactive or underactive bladder, difficult defecation, and fistulas.
Dr. Grimes will serve as Vice Chair of Research and Faculty Development to support the department's educational and research missions. Previously, she held positions as Chief of Advanced Urogynecology and Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery, as well as Associate Chair of Research in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Westchester Medical Center and New York Medical College.
Her medical training includes a fellowship in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive pelvic surgery at University of California/Kaiser Permanente in San Diego, along with an obstetrics and gynecology residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital where she was administrative chief resident. Dr. Grimes earned her medical degree from Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
Before her medical career, Dr. Grimes taught math and science across various schools nationwide through programs like Teach for America in Oakland, California, and Houston.
Dr. Grimes is actively involved with several professional organizations including the Society for Gynecologic Surgeons where she serves as Research Chair. She is also a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Urogynecologic Society, and the International Urogynecological Association. Her research has been widely recognized; notably receiving the International Urogynecological Association’s Oscar Contreras Ortiz Award for impactful research published in 2021.
