Paul Tonko, a U.S. Congressman representing New York's 20th district, recently shared insights on social media regarding significant issues impacting his constituents. Tonko, who has been serving in Congress since 2009 and previously served in the New York State Assembly, addressed topics ranging from tax credits to federal funding freezes.

On January 28, 2025, Paul Tonko highlighted the impact of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) over the past five decades. He expressed pride in joining United Way of the Greater Capital Region in Latham to promote access to this credit and free tax filing assistance through VITA. "For 50 years, the Earned Income Tax Credit has helped families make ends meet here in our Capital Region and beyond."

Later that day, Tonko raised concerns about issues faced by states, non-profits, and other organizations due to a federal funding freeze implemented by the Trump Administration. He urged Congress and community-minded individuals to oppose what he described as an unlawful power grab. "States, non-profits & other organizations are already experiencing problems accessing programs because of the Trump Administration federal funding freeze."

In a follow-up tweet posted shortly after, Tonko reached out directly to his constituents for feedback on how this funding pause affects them or their organizations. He encouraged them to participate in a brief survey to share their experiences and insights. "For those who live in my district, if you or your organization have questions or insights on how this funding pause impacts you, I encourage you to complete this brief survey."
