On February 3, 2025, Paul Tonko tweeted about an alleged hostile takeover orchestrated by Elon Musk. He stated, "In the span of just a few hours, unelected billionaire Elon Musk has imposed a hostile takeover of USAID and forced his way into confidential Treasury payment systems – giving his lackeys access to the personal information and Social Security numbers of millions of Americans."

Following this tweet on the same day, Tonko continued with another post asserting the severity of these actions. He remarked, "These actions are illegal and unconscionable, and they will cause immeasurable harm to countless people here in our nation and across the globe."

On February 5, 2025, Paul Tonko addressed workplace integrity by promoting a resource for reporting misconduct. He mentioned, "I also want to ensure that, should you wish to, you have avenues to report any wrongdoing you see at your workplace. That's why I'm sharing a whistleblower tipline where you can submit your concerns and learn your rights and protections under the law."
