On February 5, 2025, Paul Tonko expressed gratitude towards federal employees in a tweet stating: "A message for our nation’s federal employees: Whether or not the President believes so, your work in service to our nation and its communities is invaluable. We stand with you, now and always, and we thank you."

Later that day, he celebrated receiving an accolade from CADCA by tweeting: "This morning, I was honored to join @CADCA’s National Leadership Forum to receive their Lifetime Achievement Award! I’m grateful to CADCA and to the coalition leaders across the nation who have joined in our efforts to prevent and reduce substance use in our communities."

In another tweet posted on February 5, 2025, Tonko criticized a bill being pushed by House Republicans regarding the fentanyl crisis. He stated: "The House GOP is pushing through a bill that merely pays lip service to the fentanyl crisis; meanwhile, Trump and Musk are dismantling the very programs that allow individuals to receive lifesaving treatment. Let's vote on a real plan that helps our communities."
