Albany County will be hosting its annual Child Safety Seat Checkup event on April 5th to ensure that children are properly protected while traveling in vehicles. The event is part of the Albany County Traffic Safety Program's ongoing efforts to promote child safety on the road.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, "Car crashes are the number one killer of children between one and 13 years old." This highlights the critical importance of using and installing car seats and booster seats correctly to prevent injuries and fatalities among young passengers.
With over 20 years of experience in conducting free child safety seat check events, the Albany County Traffic Safety Program aims to address the issue of improperly installed seats. "Every year, we see hundreds of seats improperly installed, and by hosting these events, we ensure that children are properly protected," stated a representative of the program.
One of the key aspects of the event is the inspection and replacement of car seats that are no longer safe for use. As mentioned by the program representative, "We replace expired, damaged, or recalled car seats or seats that are inappropriate for use by a child." This proactive approach helps in maintaining the safety standards for child passengers.
The Child Safety Seat Checkup event will take place on Friday, April 5th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The location for the event is the Crossgates Mall parking lot near the Tru by Hilton Hotel at 1651 Western Avenue, Guilderland. The event is free of charge and aims to assist parents and caregivers in ensuring the safety of their children during car journeys.
