Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has issued a statement regarding the criminal referral of former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo by the House Select Subcommittee on the COVID Pandemic. In her statement, Stefanik accused Cuomo of obstructing the investigation into his handling of COVID-19 in nursing homes and lying to Congress.

"Disgraced former NY Governor Andrew Cuomo stonewalled the investigation of the House COVID Select Committee, refused to apologize to the families of the more than 15,000 New York seniors killed due to his COVID nursing home directive, and openly committed a felony by lying to Congress," said Stefanik. She further stated that "Cuomo is a corrupt criminal that belongs behind bars."

Stefanik highlighted her efforts in seeking accountability from Cuomo, mentioning her role as "the first elected official to call for his resignation," as well as demanding independent investigations and engaging with federal agencies like HHS and DOJ. She emphasized that "The COVID Select Committee’s criminal referral is an important next step to deliver long overdue justice for the thousands of New York families grieving the loved ones lost by Cuomo’s corruption, carelessness, and crimes."

The congresswoman concluded her statement by urging action from the Department of Justice: "I urge the Department of Justice to take immediate action. Andrew Cuomo will never hold public office again and must be held criminally responsible."
