Orthopedic patients in the southern region of Albany Med Health System can now access MRI scans without leaving their provider's office. The Columbia Memorial Health’s Bone and Joint Center in Hudson has introduced the Esaote O-scan technology, allowing isolated scans of limbs without requiring full immersion.
"The nature of a traditional MRI can be problematic for patients who are claustrophobic," said CMH Chief Medical Officer Rakel Astorga, MD. "The O-scan design eliminates the need for full immersion to scan limbs, and the in-office location allows us to quickly assess a situation and develop a plan for treatment."
The O-scan device includes features such as metal artifact reduction and cartilage imaging, making it the first of its kind in the Capital Region. Previously, the nearest O-scan device was located in Manhattan. This installation enables patients to receive necessary services closer to home, reducing additional outreach and follow-up appointments.
The Hudson office is one of two Bone and Joint Center locations and was remodeled with funds raised by the Columbia Memorial Health Foundation, which also financed the purchase of the O-scan MRI machine.
"This new technology will provide an enhanced experience for our patients while improving our imaging capabilities and operating efficiency. We’re grateful to the CMH Foundation and the people of our community for supporting this effort and assisting us in ensuring quality patient care," said Dorothy Urschel, President and CEO of CMH.
The addition of the O-scan MRI machine aims to increase access to high-quality care for local residents. This effort reflects Albany Med Health System’s dedication to providing quality care closer to those who need it throughout the Mid-Hudson Valley.
Columbia Memorial Health operates two Bone and Joint Centers within Albany Med Health System's network of 13 orthopedic care offices. These centers offer various services from consultations to same-day procedures, enhancing patient care experiences.
